The Insurance Act, RSPEI 1988, c. I-4 states the term "automobile" includes "a trolley bus and a self-propelled vehicle, and the trailers, accessories, and equipment of any of them but does not include railway rolling stock that runs on rails, or watercraft, or aircraft of any kind."
The Automobile Insurance Part of the Insurance Act applies only to automobiles that are required to be registered under the Highway Traffic Act, RSPEI 1988, c. H-5, unless the automobile is insured under a contract evidenced by a policy on a form approved under that Part (s. 215(3)). Subject to that caveat and any exemptions under the Highway Traffic Act, any vehicle permitted on the public highway is required to be registered.
